The Galleon 100 Club – our vision for a sustainable shop and Post Office

Last year before we had heard of COVID-19, Gary and Kay set up the Galleon 100 Club with a number of likeminded customers.

Our vision was to help create a sustainable shop at the heart of a sustainable village. The club is designed to establish a simple partnership between us and our customers; encouraging greater use of the shop, more two-way communication, easier shopping and a joint approach to how we move the shop forward.

The club will emphasise the use of fresh local produce, reducing plastic waste, using ethical companies, shopping little and often to cut out food waste, walking or cycling to shops and many other initiatives. Put simply, the more customers that get involved in the club, the greater the changes we can make within the shop and community.

If you would like to hear more about this exciting way forward and join the Galleon 100 Club, please email garydeare@aol.com or phone 01803 842148.

Coronavirus update 26 June 2020

A big thank you to all our wonderful customers for your support over the last three months. The first few weeks of the lockdown were very difficult for us dealing with the dramatic changes affecting all aspects of our business.

In recent weeks we have re-organised the business, employed additional help and now have a functioning delivery service in conjunction with Savills the Butchers, in addition to the village shop and post office.

Extended opening hours

From Sunday 5th July, we’ll be extending our opening hours as follows:

Monday – Friday 7.30am-5.30pm

Saturday 7.30am-2pm

Sunday 8am-12pm

Placing orders for collection or delivery

You can continue to submit orders via email to garydeare@aol.com or by phoning the shop during our new extended opening hours (above) on 01803 842148. If you happen to forget any items, please use a follow up email.

If you have any questions or queries about seasonal produce or other items ahead of placing an order, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

We’re now in a position to take on additional customers if you or anyone you know may want to utilise our personal, friendly and flexible service.

Deliveries

We will continue to serve all of our existing customers for as long as they need us, and have allocated Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for deliveries going forward. Collection can be arranged at any time to suit the customer.

To ensure we provide you with the freshest produce, we are introducing a cut-off time of 12 noon the day before, for customers placing an order for delivery.

We will be introducing geographical deliveries on our delivery days, and will continue to be flexible and do our best to deliver at a time that is most convenient for you.

As usual, we will contact you via telephone when your order has been put together in the shop to confirm the amount and day/time of delivery. Please don’t hesitate to confirm with us if you are unsure.

Shop visits

We will still be applying the government guidelines on social distancing to protect our staff and customers. Please still enter one customer (or family) at a time, entering from the front and exiting via the side door. While queuing please maintain a two meter gap.

Post Office

If you have a number of parcels to post and would like to avoid queuing, please contact us on 01803 842148 to make special arrangements.

COVID-19: Maximum of two customers at a time and one way system in store

To help limit the spread of COVID-19, Galleon Stores & Post Office have instigated a maximum of two customers at a time policy and a one way system through the store.

Please enter through the front door after checking the number inside, and leave by the side door.

One person can queue by the fruit and vegetable stall, but we ask that all other customers queue from the top of the steps, leaving at least 6 foot of space between each customer.

Thank you for your cooperation and please stay safe.

Security features to protect you from new £20 counterfeit banknotes

With the recent issue of the new polymer £20 banknotes, The Post Office (2020) have shared a number of security features to help customers identify counterfeit notes. We’ve listed the top two below:

1. Hologram image change

Tilt the note from side to side. Check the words change between ‘Twenty’ and ‘Pounds’.

2. See-through windows

Look at the metallic image over the main window. Check the foil is blue and gold on the front of the note and silver on the back.

Look for a second, smaller window in the bottom corner of the note.

The Bank of England provides more information on security features to keep an eye out for. Visit their dedicated webpage on the new £20 note
