New In Store

Locally sourced produce – The Bay Tree

Our aim this year is to further increase the quality, locally sourced produce we stock in the shop.

The first new company we would like to try is The Bay Tree, based in Ivybridge. Their wide range of products includes Jellies & Savoury Jams, Vegan Mayonnaise, Chutneys, Relishes and Pickles, Dressings, Cheese Board Accompaniments, Slow Cook Sauces, Traditional, Creamy & World Cooking Sauces, Desserts, Curds, Cakes & Cookies.

To help choose the lines we stock in the shop, we would like your support. If you have a few minutes to spare, please take a look at their website and email with any suggestions.

For those who would prefer, we also have a hard copy of their 2021 brochure in the shop.

We’ve introduced three new local cheeses to our deli counter this month, including Cornish Camembert from Trevarrian Creamery and a St Endellion Mini Cheese and Dorset Blue Vinny from Hawkridge Dairy.

Staying local, new plant-based Vegable meals are made in Newton Abbot and offer natural, quick to cook and full of goodness frozen meals. The Mango Magic Tangy Mango Sauce Puy Lentil Burger (which comes highly recommended by Gary) and Thai Die For Penang Curry with Creamy Coconut Sauce are now stocked in the shop, with other flavours from the range available to order:

  • Butter Me Up Butterbean, Sweet Potato & Spinach Stew
  • Hot Dang Red Pepper, Bean & Aubergine Chilli
  • Cheese Louise Bubble & Squeak Bites with Kale
  • It’s All Gravy Mash & Gravy Bites with Rich Gravy Centre

Also, from next week we will have a variety of potted plants available to buy from the shop, including potted narcissi, violas and other spring bedding.

For your Spring gardening needs, we are also stocking a small number of bags of eco compost from Dalefoot Compost. Made from a blend of sheep’s wool and bracken, this Peat-Free Wool Compost is made wholly in the UK. You can read more about the benefits of peat-free compost here.

We’re pleased to share we are now offering a number of top-up services in store, including Faith in Nature Shampoo and Conditioner, varieties of Ecover Washing-up Liquid and Fabric Softener, Cleanol Anti-bacterial Liquid Hand Soap, Concentrate Disinfectant and CleanPro Alcohol Hand Gel.

New in: refillable cleaning products

Prior to lockdown and as part of our mission to reduce the use of plastic bottles at Galleon Stores, we had plans to introduce a refilling service for some cleaning products.

You can now find three refillable cleaning products in the shop: Ecover Washing-Up Liquid in Lemon & Aloe Vera and Camomile & Clementine varieties, and Ecover Sensitive Fabric Softener in Apple Blossom and Almond.

The concept is simple – come in and purchase a bottle and once you’re done with it, come back in and refill your bottle.

We want your feedback on the products too, to let us know how they perform and how you find the service. Perhaps you know of other suppliers we could consider? Please let us know!

We’re committed to developing our work to reduce plastic waste in the shop, and the success of our latest refillable products will influence how fast we go in introducing more. We are already looking at laundry liquid from Ecover and shampoo and conditioner from Faith in Nature.

An update on stock

As many of you will already be aware, we have seen an increased demand across many supplies which has led to difficulties with stock availability. Many producers are also reducing their product lines owing to supply chain issues, which means some general grocery products and varieties are no longer available.

We are working hard with our suppliers to make products available where possible, and below you can find a quick update on availability of products in the shop and for order.

We are no longer having difficulties supplying bread flour and this is now readily available to buy in store or order for delivery.

Self-raising flour is also coming in slowly and customers can order in advance if they so wish. Plain flour has returned to near normal supplies, as has yeast.

Supplies of speciality flour are still very erratic, so please request in advance and we will do our best to source these for you.

Fresh products

Fresh products are still readily available, especially where we use local suppliers. We have English strawberries, new season Cornish potatoes, asparagus (from just up the road), broad beans, rhubarb and new season New Zealand Cox’s apples plus a large range of exotic fruit.

And, if you’re looking to mix up your mushroom intake, chestnut mushrooms are also now available.

If you have any questions about stock availability, please give us a call on 01803 842148 or contact us here

Now stocking sugar-free preserves from local supplier Waterhouse Fayre

We’re currently stocking a range of jams and chutneys from Waterhouse Fayre, but did you know the team at Waterhouse have recently launched a new sugar-free preserve?

The Devon-based business were recently featured in the Western Morning News, discussing their new ‘FruitiFul’ label. The new range of preserves are ‘made with honey and a sugar substitute’ and feature three fruit jams and one marmalade.

We’ll be holding a number of tasting days ahead of introducing the line instore, with dates to be announced soon. In the meantime, you can still find a range of traditional Waterhouse Fayre products on our shelves to tempt those taste buds.
