Passing on our Nextdoor Good Neighbour Award

We shared recently that we had won an award in the Sunday Times and Nextdoor Good Neighbour Awards, for our work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

See below for the write-up which featured in The Sunday Times on the 6th September.

But we’re not here to celebrate us, in fact we would like to pass the award on to all the people who enabled us to continue to operate and adapt to the demands of the lockdown measures:

– To all of our customers for their kind words and support, and for those who nominated us for the award

– To our staff and volunteers, including the young people who helped to deliver the papers

– To Savill’s the Butchers with whom we continue to run a food delivery service

– To all of our suppliers, especially those who supplied us with fresh produce on a daily basis – Hallett’s the Bakers (Paignton), Dartmouth Dairy (Dartmouth), Total Produce Fruit & Veg (Bovey Tracey).

– Our local producers, including Bays Brewery, Brittania of Beesands, Buckfast Bakery, Devon Choice, Exmoor Heat & Eat, Hawkridge Dairy, Heron Valley, Hunt’s, Miles Tea and Coffee, Quality Foods, Redmoor, Riverford Farm, Riverside Poultry Farm, Salcombe Dairy, Sharpham Wines and Waterhouse Fayre.

The last six months have taught us how important it is to support local businesses. When the national and international companies let us down, we were able to turn to our many local suppliers and producers to keep Galleon Stores going and supporting the local community.

We would now love to keep supporting these businesses, but need your support to continue choosing these quality goods over more famous alternatives.
